Jun 20, 2008 · The .22-250 is a phenominal varmint round, but lacks the ability to send heavier bullets in most rifles - the twist is too slow to stabilize them. The heavier bullets carry better and retain energy and velocity longer, for 1000 yard shooting. The .308 is plenty capable of 1000 yard work, but drops faster than the .243. Jeff.

Either the .223 or the .243 make more sense for a youngster than the .22-250 or the .308. All four will work just fine, but I would rather see a kid hunting with a .223 than a .22-250. Likewise a full power .243 makes more sense to me than a reduced recoil .308. How old/big is the kid? Re: .22-250 vs .308 Win.

Jan 1, 2009 · Bushnell 3200 5-15x40mm Tactical with Mildot reticle. Harris Bipod, solid mount, 9-13". Plastic double rifle hard gun case. But I'm not sure on what caliber to get .308 / 243 or a 22.250. A 243 and the 22-250 are probably the ideal round for roo's out to 150m. When hunting I'll be shooting from 100m out to 200-250m.

What Calibers Use The Same Boltface As .308
Dec 7, 2010 · The 6.5x55's rim diameter is not the same as the .308/.30-06. .308 Winchester family = .4728". 6.5x55 = .480". That's a huge difference. Officially, you're correct. But many ammo manufacturers use the same diameter as the 30-06 to ease in manufacturing. So while the base says 6.5x55 it is the same size as the 30-06.

Jul 22, 2009 · The .22-250 is a long range varmint gun. You can shoot praire dogs at 400 yards with one. It is a great varmint cartridge and if you want to ge after varmints, it is a great choice. But the .25-06 is a bigger caliber and is better suited as a big game gun. You can shoot varmints with lighter bullets, but if varmints are you main aim, get a .22-250.

Mar 7, 2018 · Why own a 22-250. There is no reason. The 243 outperforms the 22-250 at long range (higher bc offerings in 6mm). The 243 has better big game bullet selection. The 243 shoots 55s faster than 55s from the 22-250, and has higher bcs to boot. The 243 can easily be loaded down to 22-250 levels of recoil.

Dec 1, 2017 · I never tried the 80's in a standard 22-250 but with 69-70gr bullets I was getting 150-200fps better velocity with the AI depending on bullet and powder combo, also with better accuracy (at least in my rifles).
