A classic train trip and a must do, a unique experience. Comfortable enough., able to sleep most of the night, much more than I can on a plane. Full review by johnoE5106JX

Take the Sapa Express bus. It leaves Hanoi at 7.00am and drops you off in the middle of Sapa just after midday. You will be able to check in to your accommodation and spend the afternoon starting to explore beautiful Sapa. The train trip is terrible, regardless of which train company you choose! First you travel overnight (both ways) and will get no sleep. Arriving in Sapa around 6.30am with no sleep makes the first day a difficult one. Second, the train stops at Lao Cai, from where you need to organise further transportation for the one hour drive to Sapa. Save yourself the sleep deprivation and the inconvenience of having to add a one hour road trip to the end of the train travel. Get the bus direct to your destination. We met a number of people in our travels around Vietnam who had also taken the train to Sapa and all of them said they would not do it again. We did not know about the bus option and it was also recommended by the locals in Sapa. Enjoy Sapa, it truly is a wonderful place.
